Nebraska welcome sign on the NE/CO state line. A US 138 shield can be seen in the distance, and the Union Pacific line parallels the highway east to Big Springs.

END US 138 shield before the junction with US 30 north of Big Springs. This configuration for the US 30/138 junction is a relatively recent one.

Until about 1999, US 138 split into two roads just before the US 30 intersection. The eastbound fork connected directly with US 30, and the westbound fork provided access to a county road heading north to Lake McConaughy.
