From NE 36 Westbound:

NE 36 has a highly unusual western terminus in that the highway does not end at a junction of another state-maintained highway or at a state line. The western end of NE 36 is about 200' west of its interchange with the US 275 freeway. However, this was not always the case. Until November 2001, NE 36 ended at this alignment of US 275, which was ran parallel to the railroad tracks in the picture. US 275 was shifted to the new freeway alignment in November 2001, and from that time until spring or summer 2002, NE 36 ended at US 275A (shown in the image below):

Major props to Neil for getting this picture. In any case, US 275A was only a temporary designation before being turned over to Douglas County and becoming a local road. (Super Bonus Trivia: The US 275A shield uses MUTCD Series C lettering, which is unheard of on US shields in Nebraska.)
