Nebraska Interstate 580
I-580

Designated in Nebraska: 1975 or 1976
Decommissioned: 1980

Southern Terminus: I-480 Exit 2C in Omaha
Northern Terminus:
around Florence Blvd in north Omaha (planned)
Replaced by: US 75 (North Freeway)

History: I-580, or the North Freeway, was part of Omaha's 1970's-era freeway program. This ambitious project included the present-day Storz and Sorenson parkways, the South (now Kennedy) Freeway, and the canceled West Freeway. Construction began in the mid-1970s and 2-mile stretch of I-580 was signed for a few years. However, I-580's Interstate status was revoked due to the high cost of bringing the 480/580 interchange up to I-standards. The North Freeway itself was not completed until the late 1980s.
